Mum who nearly died after collapsing at an exercise class has donated a life saving defibrillator to sports complex.

Susan Connell collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest during a Clubbercise class in Greenock in February last year.

Luckily two nurses, June Doherty and Suzanne Taylor, were at the class and they used their training to step in and save her life.

Susan is now determined to install defibrillators in community facilities throughout Inverclyde.

She has already donated one of the life-saving devices to Newark Primary and Port golf club.

Susan, of Port Glasgow, told the Tele: "This is the third defibrillator I've donated and I've raised enough money for a fourth.

"These defibrillators are life-saving.

"I don't think people realise how important they are."

Stuart Graham, who is the head coach at the Port Juniors 2010 team, says having the defibrillator at Parklea Playing Fields gives sports teams a peace of mind.

He said: "We train down here every Wednesday.

"I think what Susan has done is very charitable.

"A lot of people don't think that a defibrillator is needed because it's young children but they are just as at risk as everyone else so it gives us that peace of mind."

Susan raised the money to buy the machine after hosting a charity night at the RAF in Greenock in February which raised over £1,600.

She added: "It was a brilliant night.

"I'd like to thank everyone who supported it and thank everyone who donated raffle prizes."

Susan's colleagues at the Greenock Tesco store have also been a great support especially her workmate James Crawford.

He said: "It's fantastic how much Susan has raised in just a year."
