BISHOP John Keenan will be visiting Greenock as part of the Rosary on the Coast event on April 29.

People are invited to form a ring of prayer around the coast of Scotland, England and Wales.

Frances Dunlop, a life-long member of St Mary's Church, who is taking part, said: "I just thought it was a great idea to surround the coast of Scotland, England and Wales with a ring of prayer.

"We will be praying for the spiritual wellbeing of our nations and for peace."

Frances says the idea is based on similar events in Poland and has also be done in Ireland.

She said: "It’s something that seems to have caught people’s imagination, and so far over 200 venues have been registered, including Greenock, Port Glasgow and Wemyss Bay."

Bishop John will lead the Greenock event with people taking part at St Mary's at 2.30pm, then proceeding to the foot of Campbell Street to begin the recitation of the rosary at 3pm.

The event also has the support of parish priest Canon Tom Boyle.

Frances said: "It brings people together and it is a way to promote the power of prayer.

"It's a great feeling to feel you are part of something bigger. Sometimes I think Christians feel they are in the minority but this will bring everyone together to pray for the wellbeing of the country. The official intentions are faith life and peace."
