IT was green for go as Wellington Park Bowling Club held its opening ceremony for 2018.

Players and invited guests gathered for the annual event.

Before the green was officially opened, everyone tucked into a delicious sit down meal before the first jack was thrown by club president Ian Broadfoot's wife Thelma.

The members then kicked off their summer season by playing eight ends.

Stephen McLellan, who is on the club's committee, said it was a fantastic way to begin the new season.

He said: "It was a great day, especially as the weather was kind.

"We are looking forward to another successful season on the green."

Other guests who were at the club's green party were vice president John McGilvray alongside Jim McElwee, the president of the Renfrewshire Bowling Association.

Also in attendance were Duncan McCallum, who is president of Victoria Bowling Club, and Jim Broadfoot, the past president of Dunbartonshire Bowling Association.

They were joined by representatives of other clubs, including Inverkip, Fort Matilda, Rankin Park, Grosvenor, Hillend, Victoria and Kilmacolm, and Gilbert McCracken, who is the president of the Greenock and District Bowling Association.
