THOUGHTFUL local runners will pay tribute to a former MasterChef contestant who died during the London Marathon at an event in Greenock tomorrow night.

Matt Campbell, who reached the semi-finals of the BBC cooking show in December, passed away at the world-famous event on Sunday, aged just 29, after collapsing 3.7 miles short of the finish line.

People across the UK and beyond have been 'finishing' the marathon in his memory by completing the final few miles he was unable to and have raised thousands of pounds for charity, Brathay Trust.

A group of local runners will meet at the Cove Road end of Battery Park tomorrow night at 6pm to run the distance in tribute to Mr Campbell.

All are welcome and participants can walk or run the 3.7 miles.

Those who do take part are being asked to donate £3.70 to Brathay Trust, which Mr Cambell was a supporter of.

Tomorrow night's memorial event is being organised by the volunteers behind the popular Inverclyde Couch 2 5k group.
