A GREENOCK man has been charged with trying to murder his brother.

Stuart Foster appeared in court from police custody accused of repeatedly knifing sibling Allen.

Foster, 37, is said to have carried out the alleged attack at South Street on Sunday.

He made no plea through lawyer Aidan Gallagher during a private hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court.

The Telegraph told on Monday how detectives had arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with an alleged 2am stabbing at South Street, near Kelly Street.

A 29-year-old man was rushed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital and kept in a high dependency unit before undergoing emergency surgery.

The charge against Foster, of Ravenscraig Court, alleged that he 'assaulted Allen Foster and did repeatedly strike him on the body with a knife to severe injury and danger of life and did attempt to murder him'.

Detectives had initially been hunting three men in connection with the alleged incident at South Street before arresting and charging Foster later on Sunday.

It is understood that numerous members of the public had contacted Greenock CID after hearing a loud altercation.

Accused Foster was remanded in custody by Sheriff Derek Hamilton, who continued the case for further examination.

The matter is due to call in court again next week.
