PLAYERS were 'bowled over' by the support they received at their official summer open day.

Members of Victoria Bowling Club swung into action at the annual event and president Duncan McCallum said it was the perfect start to their outdoor season.

He told the Tele: "We enjoyed one of the biggest turnouts we have had in a long time.

"The weather helped as it was a lovely day.

"It was great as a lot of people came along with their families which was good as we're trying to encourage more youngsters to get involved."

The first bowl which was thrown by Duncan's granddaughter Courtney McCallum, who has just turned 20.

After this, the players took to the green to play 11 ends before they tucked in to a mouthwatering buffet which was rustled up by Duncan's wife Mary while a disco was held later on.

The club are on the look out for new members so anyone who would like to try out the sport is asked to pop down to the East Crawford Street club or phone 723913.
