INVERCLYDE homeowners will continue to get the vital help they need with adaptations and repairs in future.

Council leader Stephen McCabe promised that there would be ‘no issues’ following the decision to end the £386,000 Care and Repair contract with Cloch Housing.

Concerns had been raised about the support people would receive with aids, adaptations and the care and repair service in the future.

Inverclyde Council took the decision while setting their new budget in a bid to make savings by bringing the services in-house.

At a recent communities committee, Councillor McCabe said: “There will be no change in the support and the funding will still be available. Families will be supported throughout the process.”

Until now the care and repair team have looked after aids and adaptations, as well as running a service for routine house repairs for the over-60s.

But this came to an end as part of setting of the latest budget.

The council has asked Cloch Housing to continue running the services until March next year, to give them an opportunity to put plans in place.

Cloch are in negotiations with the council to do so.

Councillor Liz Robertson asked for reports to be brought to committee setting out the plans for both services, which are separate and previously contracted to Cloch Housing as part of care and repair.
