GOAL-DEN girls had a pitch perfect time at a football festival at Cappielow.

More than 130 pupils from local primary schools enjoyed football sessions on Morton's hallowed turf.

Active Schools ran the sessions in conjunction with Morton in the Community.

Active schools co-ordinator Mhairi Lyle said: "All primary schools were invited, they played fun games.

"It is a chance to participate in football rather than a competitive game."

The youngsters who took part were in P4 to P7 and they were treated to a visit by Hannah McGeehan, a member of the Morton Ladies under-17s team and the Scottish Under-15s squad.

The visit was aimed at inspiring other girls to follow in her footsteps.

Mhairi says football has never been so popular among girls and there are now more opportunities to play.

She said: "It's so much more popular than it used to be.

"There are schools programmes running and a lot of girls playing football in general."

The local schools who took part were: Aileymill, All Saints, Ardgowan, King's Oak, St Joseph's, St Mary's, St Patrick's and St Andrew's, Moorfoot, St Ninian's and St Michael's.
