DOG walkers kicked up a stink after a 'poo bin' was cordoned off in Greenock.

Contractors fenced off the end of the cycle track near Lady Octavia Sports Centre to make way for work to extend the number of parking bays at the sports complex.

But the barrier blocked the dog waste bin, leaving owners with nowhere to dispose of bags.

But some resorted to throwing them over the fence, creating an unsightly mess.

One person, who asked not to be named, said: "Dog walkers cannot put their dog faeces bags in the bin because construction workers have fenced it off.

"They have been throwing their bags over the fence to try to land them on top of the bin.

"If the fence had been placed two feet further back then there wouldn't be all these dog poo bags scattered around.

"The construction company is definitely in the dog-house."

The Tele understands that the fence was put up by contractors who are carrying out the work on behalf of Inverclyde Council.

A spokesman from the council said: “We have made arrangements for the fence to be moved back a few feet to allow dog walkers access to the bin.”

The work to extend the car park will increase the number of bays at Lady Octavia to 82 plus two spots for motorbikes.

The project will also include the creation of a new access point and is designed to alleviate congestion on Bridgend Road, which runs alongside the sports centre.
