SERIOUS concerns have been raised after a large panel fell off a shop and landed in the walkway underneath.
A worried shopper contacted the Tele after witnessing the incident at the retail park in Port Glasgow.
It happened at the Watt Brothers store on Saturday morning.
The shopper, who did not wish to be named, said: "One of the very large panels which provide the overhang outside Watt Brothers fell off.
"If anyone had been walking below at the time they would almost certainly have suffered serious injury.
"It's very worrying.
"Should the whole walkway be checked for faulty panels?"
A spokeswoman for Watt Brothers told the Tele that following the incident they alerted Ediston Real Estate, who are the retail park developers.
She said: "We have reported this to the landlord.
"It is their responsibility as they own the building."
Alastair Dickie, who is the development director at Ediston Real Estate, today reassured shoppers.
He said: "It was an isolated incident and we are getting it repaired."
Inverclyde Council say they will be looking into the incident.
A spokesman told the Tele: "This incident hadn’t been reported so far to our building standards service.
"They are now aware of it and will be examining this situation.”
Watt Brothers opened at the retail park in October 2016.
