THE stage is set for a huge festival of music and film aimed at Inverclyde's young people.

Greenock-based charity RIG Arts is hosting Evolve Fest, a new one-day waterfront event featuring a top line-up of entertainment and local talent.

It will take place at Customhouse Quay, outside the Beacon, on Sunday June 3 from 2-8pm and is completely free.

The festival, which will showcase the very best in music, film, dance and art locally, is in support of Year of the Young People 2018 and is being organised by a dedicated youth panel with the backing of bosses from national tourism agency VisitScotland.

Among the acts who will perform are Greenock indie rockers Black Dove, Port Glasgow soloist Jack Vize and Love and Money frontman James Grant, who has been working with RIG in recent months on a series of songwriting workshops for residents of all ages.

There will also be performances from the Beacon Youth Dance Club and Clydeview Academy students, visual art exhibitions and a variety of film, arts and crafts and dance workshops.

Morgan Carter, 18, who heads up the organising group, said: "We're all really excited for the festival as it's something we've never seen in the area before, and there's so much going on to be involved in.

"It's been a great opportunity for me to make new friends, other young people I normally wouldn't have the opportunity to meet.

"I can't wait to see it all come together on the day."

There will also be screenings of two unique comedy dramas made by budding, local film-makers with the help of writer and director Chris Fallen.

Singer songwriter James Grant, who has sold millions of records and performed with a host of big names including U2, BB King and Tina Turner, has also been coaching aspiring Inverclyde musicians and they will perform their own pieces of work alongside him at the festival.

There will be an exhibition of work produced by local high school students, art and upcycling activities, a picnic area, photo opportunities, hot food, free ice cream and a grand finale fireworks display.

Entry is free and the festival is open to everyone.

Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland's director of events, said: "In the Year of Young People, EventScotland is proud to be supporting such a great showcase of young people's contributions to communities and cultural life.

"They have done a fantastic job planning a festival for the young and young at heart to enjoy."
