A MAN is fighting for his life after being stabbed in Greenock in the early hours of this morning.
The 25-year-old was walking with two women in Wellington Street just after midnight when he was stabbed by a man in the head and body in what's believed to be a targeted attack.
He was rushed to Inverclyde Royal where his condition is described as 'life threatening' and 'critical'.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff at Greenock CID said: "Just after 12.15am this morning a 25-year-old man was stabbed in the body and the head by a male described as approximately 6ft in height wearing a black hooded top with dark bottoms and in possession of a knife.
"We are treating this as an attempted murder."
DI Wagstaff says the injured man will be operated on in hospital.
He added: "He was deemed as in a critical condition this morning - it was life threatening.
"We are awaiting the outcome of the surgery."
He is appealing for anyone with information to phone CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
