A GREENOCK east end school celebrated a national award with a magic show party.

Pupils, parents and teachers at King's Oak Primary won the the family and community learning gong at the Scottish Education Awards

They held a bash in the school to mark the milestone after seeing off tough competition from across the country.

Head teacher Graeme Marshall said: "We are delighted and really proud of the school community.

"Our key strategy is to raise attainment and we have been connecting with our families and community in our hub, which brings parents and partners together in order to get the very best outcomes for our children."

Dehra MacDonald senior family learning worker, said: "It is a phenomenal achievement, amazing for the school, community and all our parents."

Dehra was joined by parents Jackie Thomson and Jan McLellan, who are involved in the King's Oak Parent Circle group and pupils Daymian Story and Cameron Steele at the glittering presentation event.

Jan said: "I think it's good for the the kids. My daughter attended this school but parents are more involved now than they were then."

Daymain, 10, said: "I feel proud for the school and all the hard work by the volunteers and parents."

Cameron, nine, added: "I feel really happy. It was exciting being at the awards ceremony. I was over the moon.

"I had my fingers, toes arms and legs crossed."

The RBS mortgage centre pitched in and donated £400 to help the school mark its success with a magic show.

Gordon Morrison, TBS team manager, said: "One of the parents Anne Doig works for us.

"We decided to arrange a party for the kids and parents and raised the money from a tombola and cake sale."
