A TALENTED Greenock makeup artist has won a top gong at the Scottish Beauty Awards

Kim Boyd, who also works as deputy practice manager in Greenock Health Centre, has made a big impact since unleashing her creative side.

Since taking the plunge four years ago to follow her first love she has worked on catwalks, fashion shows, film and in photo shoots.

Specialising in bridal artistry, her work has won many admirers and she is now the Scottish Beauty Industry's Freelance Hair and Make Up Artist of the Year.

The 38-year-old told the Tele: "It just feels absolutely amazing to win.

"I was with my sister Ashley and I couldn't believe it when they said my name.

"I was just excited to be there."

Kim couldn't quite believe it when she took the call to say she was nominated in the first place.

She added: “ I didn’t think it was real and it still feels strange to know that my clients had voted for me and that I made the final.

“From a young age I have always enjoyed makeup and I love heading out to clients and using it to help them feel more confident ahead of a night out or wedding.

“I don’t do it because I want recognition, I do it because I love it."

Kim attended at the Academy of Makeup in Glasgow on a part-time course while working.

Now, three years after qualifying, her own freelance business is flourishing.

She said: “I started off doing makeup for my family and friends and uploaded pictures to my Instagram.

"I built up a portfolio and worked with other people in the industry.

"Through word of mouth things progressed and I now work part-time three days a week and head out to see clients four days a week.

“I really enjoy doing wedding makeup and editorial stuff, I also enjoy the networking side of things and I travel all over Scotland and throughout the UK for work.”

Some of the highlights on Kim's portfolio include working on the Caledonian University Fashion Show, a horror film and more recently being part of the hair and make up team on the BBC's Impossible game show.

Kim added: "I have been pretty busy and I am booked up with weddings - I love making brides feel great."
