THE hills around Clydeview Academy were alive with the sound of music as schoolchildren took to the stage for their spectacular school show.

Talented young people sang about their 'Favourite Things' as the curtain went up on their production of The Sound of Music.

Joanna Crossan, who has just finished S6, it is a dream come true to play Maria.

The 17-year-old said: "This will be my last school show, I've been involved in every single one over the past six years.

"It has really improved my confidence.

"I always said that to play 'Maria' would be my dream role so I'm so happy that I got the part."

Also starring in the show are Jade Bonnar, 16, who is in S6 and plays Louisa and Sian Campbell, 17, who plays Liesl.

Jade said: "It's been a really exciting show to do."

Sian added: "It's been great to work with the wee kids from the feeder primary schools including Moorfoot, Ardgowan and Gourock."

Musical director Alan Beck, whose son Reuben plays navy captain Georg Von Trapp in the show, says audiences are in for a treat.

He said: "The audience can expect superb songs from the Sound of Music such as Do-Re-Mi and Climb Every Mountain.

"They will also enjoy great costumes and sets and an orchestra made up of pupils, instructors, parents and staff."

Tickets were snapped up fast for the show which runs until Friday.

The school are keen to thank everyone who has helped out with the show, especially Val Forsyth and Michelle Bowman, the joint producers/directors, John McLean, school technician, and classroom assistant Theresa Jack, who helped to make the costumes.

The show is also helping a good cause in the community, with audience members bringing along donations for the local foodbank.
