DANCE stars showed some fancy footwork and made all the right moves as they shone at a major competition.

Students from Jackson Dance Academy brought back gold and silver from the Renfrewshire Stage Dance Festival along with a whole host of places.

This is only the second time the Greenock dance school has competed in such a contest.

Teacher Linda Jackson said: "We competed in our first stage festival earlier this year and this was only our second.

"It's a tough competition with performers from all over the UK."

The stage competition focuses on tap, modern, ballet, character and song and dance.

Linda said: "The best way to describe it is the UK version of Dance Moms."

"I've been teaching musical theatre for years and have choreographed several musicals including at the King's Theatre in Glasgow and it's always something I've wanted to do."

Carly Boyle, 14, won gold for the song and dance category with her version of You Guys from Legally Blonde.

Carly, who has been attending the dance school since she was four, said: "It felt amazing because the people who were up against me were phenomenal.

"I like the performance aspect and the competitive aspect as well.

"I'd like to be a dancer when I leave school and move to America because there are a lot of opportunities there."

Carly also took part in her school show, High School Musical, at Notre Dame which Linda is also choreographing.

He mum Kay said: "I'm absolutely delighted for her.

"She's worked really hard."

Laura McFarlane, 13, came second in a modern dance routine and took fourth place in a ballet competition.

Abbie Clarkson, 12, took fourth place in tap and sixth in ballet while Isabella Hay claimed fourth in the tap section and sixth in modern.

Linda said: "It's great that the dancers did so well."
