ACTOR Martin Compston has ensured pupils from his former school will get in on the act when he brings music star Example to Greenock this week.

Excited students from St Columba's High have bagged tickets for the big town hall concert on Thursday, which will also feature a GB Experience set by Clyde 1 DJ George Bowie.

It is thanks to Line of Duty star Martin, who is organising the Ardgowan Hospice fundraiser, and donated the briefs to his former secondary to ensure youngsters there do not miss out.

The tickets were presented to pupils on his behalf by Greenock music promoter Andrew 'McD' McDermid and Gourock band manager, Adrian Hunter, who are also involved in putting on the show.

Martin told the Tele: "I'm absolutely delighted to be able to bring along some pupils from my old school.

"The community aspect of this a big deal to me and obviously St Columba's was a big part of growing up for me.

"It was just recently brought to my attention by a few folk that the event is on the last day of school, so hopefully we help them start their holidays in style."

S6 pupils Ross Gillan, Leah Murray, both 16, and Caitlyn Rodgers and Kayla Orr, who are 17, were among the lucky pupils to get their hands on tickets.

Caitlyn said: "This is very kind of Martin.

"I wanted to go as I've been a big Example fan for a while.

"I'm really looking forward to it."

Classmate Ross said: "I was delighted when our teacher offered us the tickets.

"I'm a George Bowie fan as well so I'm looking forward to his set too."

McD and Adrian also teach at the West College Scotland Finnart Street campus and the gig is giving students there a unique opportunity to put their new-found skills and knowledge to good use.

Lecturer McD said: "The college students are really happy to be involved and they're dealing with all aspects of the show."

Youngsters on courses, including music business and sound production, have been helping out behind the scenes and will be heavily involved on Thursday night.

Ex-St Columba's pupil Adrian, who manages the likes of The View and Babyshambles, said: "The experience the students are getting is at the highest level.

"It's invaluable."

Tickets for the Example gig on Thursday are available online at brownpapertickets.com or from Fenwick 47 in West Blackhall Street, Greenock.
