DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a man was 'horrifically' robbed within the close of his Greenock flat.

The shocking incident happened between 4.30pm and 4.45pm in a common close in South Street yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Scott Clark of Greenock CID says a 62-year-old man endured a horrendous unprovoked attack and was robbed of small amount of cash.

The victim was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment.

DS Clark told the Tele: "A 62-year-old man was attacked within the common close by two male suspects.

"The first suspect is described as being in his early twenties and was approximately 6ft in height with brown hair and was wearing light coloured clothing.

"The second suspect is also described as being in his early twenties and was approximately 5ft 9 with brown hair and was wearing a white t-shirt with a green trim on both sleeves.

"The man was kicked and punched about the head and body and they have removed some personal property from his possession, including a small amount of cash.

"This appears to be an unprovoked and horrific attack against an innocent member of the public.

"I would urge anyone with information or who knows the identity of the persons responsible to contact Greenock CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
