POLICE have launched a probe after a taxi driver was robbed in Greenock late last night by an armed thug.
The incident happened in the town’s Ann Street at around 11.25pm.
Detectives say the cab driver was there to pick up a fare when he was targeted.
The driver, who drove a red taxi, was approached by a man armed with a weapon who demanded money from him.
Greenock CID are investigating the incident.
Officers said this morning that enquiries are still ongoing but added that they are following a ‘positive line of enquiry’.
They are keen to speak to any witnesses who were in the Ann Street area at the time and who may have seen what happened.
