SPORTY schoolgirls are aiming high at summer netball camps at Notre Dame High and Clydeview Academy.

Claire Munn, active schools co-ordinator, says the indoor classes have been busy despite all the glorious sunshine.

Claire says it's been rewarding seeing the girls progress.

She said: "We had 13 girls in each day which is a good turnout considering the weather has been good outside.

"We had kids from nine different schools, so it's been a good mix.

"Some of these girls having been coming to camps and club and still are only going into primary seven.

"They came in as basic starters and now can come out to play a game."

Claire says netball is one of the most popular sports in Inverclyde for girls.

She added: "The majority of primary schools and all secondary schools play at some level.

"They make some friendships, some people just play at club level so only see each other then as they are in different schools."

Erin Corbett, 11, said: "I like the variety of different shots when trying to reach the ball and I've made a lot of friends."

Ami McKechnie, 11, added: "I like the different shots, shooting, defending and attacking and I like coming along to this club because you meet people with the same interests."

Ashlin Monaghan, 10, told the Tele: "The camps give me something to do over the summer and keeps me fit.

"You meet new people and make new friends."

Amelie Burt, 11, said: "I've really enjoyed the netball camp, it's been great fun."
