A PORT Glasgow woman who has breast cancer held a garden party to help the hospice - and over 100 friends turned up to dig deep.

Margaret Buntine was so appreciative of the support she has had from Ardgowan staff that she wanted to arrange an event to say thank-you and raise funds to help other patients.

She was overwhelmed when family, friends, neighbours and local residents flocked to her house.

The 57-year-old had raised a remarkable £1,500 by the end of an action-packed day.

Margaret, of Montrose Avenue, said: "I couldn't believe the amount of people who came.

"Old neighbours and friends I hadn't seen for a long time stopped by, after reading about it in the Tele.

"I am just delighted to raise as much money as a I can to support the hospice.

"They do a brilliant job."

Margaret’s life was turned upside down when a routine mammogram in January showed she had no fewer than four cancerous tumours.

Since then she has faced a gruelling chemotherapy for 10 days at a time and has had to have several spells in hospital.

Margaret is also recovering from a lumpectomy procedure.

On the day of the garden party she was supported by her family, including sisters Rose Buntine, Jeannette McDonald and Elizabeth McGhee.

They would also like to thank local businesses including CalMac, McKinnon Brothers and Lace Beauty for their support with the event.
