THE Greenock nursery where cancer victim Jen Shaw worked has paid a touching tribute to her - by raising money for a cause close to her heart.

Wellington Children's Centre staff were devastated by the death in March of their much loved friend and colleague.

Courageous Jen worked in the nursery for 11 years and was adored by all the children she cared for.

In memory of her, staff, parents and the children rallied together to organise a fundraising stall at the Gourock Garden Party in aid of Ardgowan Hospice.

Close friend Elizabeth Jack, head of centre, said: "Jen is so missed by us all.

"We wanted to do something in her memory, something that was close to her heart."

Jen, who was 30, was a devoted mum to three-year-old Poppy lost her fight with cancer only months after she wed the love of her life, husband Andrew.

The nursery has successfully managed to raise £650 to help other cancer patients.

Jen's mum Janet was very moved by the support of her daughter's former colleagues.

She said: "Jen loved her job.

"She was there for a long time and the girls at Wellington were there for her every step of the way.

"They have even kept her picture on the wall as a member of staff.

"They have been amazing and it means so much to us.

"It is lovely to know that the children and staff were thinking of her."

Brave Jen spoke out about her battle with cancer in the hope of helping others and she raised a fortune for charity, being posthumously awarded the Tele Heart of Gold award for all her campaigning and inspiration to others.
