RESIDENTS at a sheltered housing complex in Greenock were 'all aboard' for a cruise ship-style party.

More than 200 people turned up for the colourful community event held at John Galt House.

River Clyde Homes joiners even built the organisers a cruise ship to set the scene and family and friends joined the residents for music, games, singing and lots of laughter.

Everyone was out basking in the sunshine and enjoying the carnival atmosphere and the local community police officers also stopped by to join in the fun.

Resident Kenneth Quinn said: "John Galt is a great place to live.

"I can't praise it enough.

"We had a great time at the party.

"The staff here are lovely and go out of their way to help. I love it here."

The sheltered housing wardens Fiona Sorrell and Mary Harkins organised the whole event.

They led the residents in a chair aerobics session.

Fiona said: "It was a great day and everyone really enjoyed it."

Mary added: "We never expected so many people to turn up."

The John Galt team were supported by lots of organisations including Morton's community trust, Greggs and Tesco in Greenock.

The gardens were transformed into a ship's deck for the day with a DJ playing the likes of We'll Meet Again.

One of the special surprises was a visit from community police officers Tracey Knox and Iain Johnston.

They turned up to see retired detective Donald McFarlane, who lives at the complex, to reminisce with him.

Constable Tracey Knox said: "We wanted to come along and join in the fun."

John Galt House manager Angela Montgomerie told the Tele: "We would just like to thank everyone for their support for a terrific day."
