A CLASSICALLY trained musician and gin enthusiast from Inverkip is in high spirits after being invited to mix her two passions at the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe.

Amanda Currie, 26, is heading to the internationally-renowned arts festival next month with 'Concerto for Gin - A Tour of Scotland'.

The cabaret-style show will see the audience try tipples from across the country matched to a piece of traditional music from each of the regions.

The show will be on at the Scottish Arts Club on August 21, 23 and 25, with the former Notre Dame High pupil teaming up with friend and pianist Fraser Harrington.

Amanda used to work at the venue while studying at Napier University and was invited back to perform there during the festival.

Having recently launched her own online blog about the Scottish drinks industry, 'The Bonnie Bartender', the musician decided to combine her love of music and knowledge of gin.

Amanda told the Telegraph: "I left the arts club last year and received a message recently asking if I wanted to do a Fringe show this year.

"I thought 'yes, that sounds great'.

"I'd been to a few gin tastings at the Inverkip Hotel which were really successful and the arts club had a whisky tasting poetry night that went down a storm so I decided to make a gin tour of Scotland with gins from four different regions - the Highlands, islands, Borders and the capital/central belt - with music to tie in with each of the areas.

"Luckily my best friend Fraser is a piano player and he was well up for it."

Amanda, who now lives in Greenock, is from a musical family, with her dad Dave Currie a member of legendary Inverclyde band The Wherries.

During the Fringe show, the audience will find out about and sample some of the finest artisan gins on the market, which will be paired with the ideal garnish, tonic, nibbles and good tunes.

Amanda has gained support for the show from The Scottish Gin Society, which is organising a launch party in Sloans in Glasgow on August 2.

She said: "I really love the music side of things but if I can do this as well then it goes hand-in-hand."
