RESIDENTS in parts of Greenock say they are living in fear of intruders trying to break in.

Councillor Ciano Rebecchi has called for action after local people in Larkfield, Braeside and Branchton raised the alarm over attempted burglaries in the neighbourhoods.

Cllr Rebecchi, who represents the south west of the town, says he is now taking up their concerns with the police in a bid to reassure householders.

The councillor told the Tele there had been reports of attempts to gain entry to houses in Burns Road, Braeside Lane and parts of Branchton.

Mr Rebecchi spoke to the Tele in the hope of raising the alarm and warning unsuspecting residents.

The LibDem representative said: "I have been contacted about doors being tried in streets including Lincoln Road, Burns Road and Braeside Lane.

"People are worried about this.

"This is not on.

"I think people need to be told about this so that they can be on their guard.

"It is a warning to make sure you have locked your doors at all times.

"We also need to try and find these culprits."

Councillor Ciano Rebecchi is now set to speak to community police officers in the area to ask about patrols.

Anyone with information about attempted break-ins is asked to call the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
