AN INSPIRATIONAL community stalwart is retiring after 31 years of helping people into work.

Jim Bristow, chief executive officer of the Community Development Trust, stepped down by leaving a parting gift of more than £2,000 to a local charity.

Jim, 67, was the first member of staff appointed when the organisation was created and says he leaves knowing that it is in safe hands.

He said: "I am stepping down at the right time.

"The organisation is at a good stage and there is a new board of management and a good staff team.

"We need someone to lead us forward to the next 31 years."

The Trust is a community-led organisation set up to support the development of job opportunities.

Jin said: "I am very proud of what the organisation has achieved over the years.

"We have helped people in lots of different ways."

The Trust has raised money for many good causes over the years and Jim thought it would be a fitting way to mark his retirement by raising money for Inverclyde Foodbank.

He sold additional days holidays to staff and raised £1,710.

As an extra surprise he managed to hand over an additional £1,000 from the Development Trust Association Scotland.

This cash was given to trusts to help groups with the impact of welfare reform.

Jim says he is looking forward to spending more time with his family."

Pastor Fraser Donaldson, who helps run Inverclyde Foodbank, has thanked Jim for his kid charity donation.

He said: "Jim and the Community Development Trust have strongly supported the i58 Project over the years and this is a phenomenal contribution."
