A GREENOCK writer has helped to launch a new company dedicated to making comic books.

Gordon Mclean has set up Trongate Publishing with fellow writers Gordon Robertson and Luke Halsall.

Their aim is to create comics mixing the the best local and international talents and get more people reading comic books.

The trio have created a family friendly anthology they called Comics World, which features a mix of short stories and previews.

It is designed to be suitable for readers of all ages and to dispell the myth that all comics are about superheroes.

Gordon said: “Comics World has a lot of different types of stories in it.

"There’s a superhero comedy, a family drama, a twisted fantasy and a cartoon story about goblins.

“We want to show people there's so much more to comics and no matter what kind of stories you like there’s one out there for you.

“We hope that after reading Comics World people will be inspired to go online or visit their local comic book shop."

With copies of Comics World now printed Gordon and his partners set up an agreement with Silverburn Cineworld to coincide with the recent release of Incredibles 2.

The publishers were at the cinema handing out free copies of Comics World, accompanied by people dressed as various characters from both comics and films.

They now plan to publish more issues, with each tied to the release of a big film.
