A CARING youngster got on his bike and used a bit of pedal power to raise money for charity.

Scott Kincaid, 12, cycled from Milngavie to Balloch with his dad Ian and raised £404.

The schoolboy was inspired to help Ardgowan Hospice after taking part in a previous charity event with his mum.

He said his 22-mile bike ride was 'hard but fun'.

Scott lives with Ian and mum Claire, manager at Specsavers in Greenock, and his wee brother Andrew, six, in Jura Street.

Ian, a postman, said: "Scott took part in the Bubble Rush event through Claire's work and when she got the letter through from the hospice about all the things the hospice could do with the money raised, he asked if he could do something on his bike.

"He's a caring wee boy."

The pair left from Scott's gran Alison Adams' house in Milngavie and her husband Paul also joined them along the way.

The travelled to Clydebank via a cycle track and under the Erskine Bridge and through Bowling to Balloch where they had a pit stop for lunch.

They then jumped on the train back to Milngavie and cycled back to his gran's house.

Ian, 36, said: "His gran, mum and little brother were all there when we came back with plenty of hugs.

"It was his idea.

"It's the furthest, he's ever cycled and we're super proud of him."

Scott who is starting Inverclyde Academy after the holidays, enjoys going on his bike, along the Esplanade and Battery Park.

Scott's next challenge is to climb Ben Nevis next year in memory of his other gran, who passed away last year.

Elaine McNeill of Ardgowan Hospice said she was very grateful to Scott and his family for their support Ardgowan Hospice.

She added: "The fantastic amount that they have raised could pay for 27 children to receive a one to one session with our child and family support service to help give them the coping skills needed to manage their grief after the loss of a family member.

"The cycle challenge that they took on was no mean feat and we are delighted that they completed the route and managed to fundraise too."
