GOUROCK'S Darroch Bar has reopened following significant investment in improvements by a local fisherman who has netted the popular Shore Street pub.

New boss Andy Quay has already seen £35,000 spent on the place and intends to continue the overhaul by refurbishing its function suite and creating a 'small hotel' on the upper floors.

Regulars are already flocking back to The Darroch after Andy, 26, opened the doors last week ahead of an official launch party with live entertainment this Saturday.

Andy, 26, wants to establish the bar as a welcoming, family-friendly destination.

He said: "I have my own fishing business but I've always wanted a pub and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to run my own pub here in Gourock.

"Being a local I'm passionate about the area and I'm really looking forward to taking on this new and exciting challenge.

"It feels great to be able to put my own stamp on The Darroch and shape it into a pub that I know will really resonate and bring value to the area."

Andy's already made a bright start by improving the main bar area, beer garden and toilets, installing live sports TVs and booking quality music acts — beginning on Saturday with tribute act Bobby does Dylan.

There will also be karaoke, quiz nights, poker evenings and darts events.

Andy said: "There really will be entertainment for everyone."

Later in the year and into 2019 work will be carried out to transform the flat which comes with the pub into a self-catering five-bedroom hotel with two kitchens and other facilities.

Andy said: "It will be a place where visitors, tourists and contract workers can stay for the duration of their stays and be comfortable, and obviously hopefully enjoy a pint in the pub.

"The function room will also be improved as I look to make it a venue for all sorts of events and celebrations.

"I'm loving doing what I'm doing here.

"It's getting busier and busier through word of mouth and I'm looking forward to a great official opening night this Saturday."

Dave Balmanno, of landlord Admiral Taverns, said: "We have been delighted to support Andy in realising his vision for The Darroch. His experience outside of the industry is refreshing and his local knowledge will be invaluable for the pub.

"The Darroch Bar looks fantastic and we wish Andy and the team all the best for the future."
