Cash donated to Inverclyde's schools
GREENOCK-BASED company Texas Instruments hosted 26 maths and science teachers from all Inverclyde secondary schools as part of a new education initiative.
The firm is donating £142,400 over three years to promote the development of active learning activities in maths and science in local high schools.
It hopes the funding will encourage more children to take maths and science to exam level, by introducing a curriculum which is relevant and exciting for the pupils.
Inverclyde Council used the facilities at TI's Greenock facility as a venue for its Co-operative Learning Academy - a teacher training programme funded by the grant.
Gerry McCarthy, TI Greenock managing director, pictured, said: "The site has an auditorium set up with all the required audio-visual equipment for presentations, so it made sense for Inverclyde Council to use this space for training.
"We wanted to do what we could to support this very important initiative, and were delighted to welcome the teachers to our site."
