Masterpiece is coming to Greenock
A DYNAMIC new opera company is returning to Greenock this spring with their latest production.
Scotland's Opera Bohemia made their debut with Puccini's famous love story La Boheme in the town to great acclaim last year, as part of a Scottish tour.
Buoyed up by this success and the aim to reach a wider audience, the company will now perform Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, which is based on Sir Walter Scott's novel The Bride of Lammermoor.
The group is not only keen to make opera more accessible to people but to provide new opportunities to singers and musicians. Scott's tragic tale is an emotional roller-coaster of secret love, family feuds, madness and heartache and is peppered with vocal fireworks and sublime melodies.
The show is described as 'a treat for seasoned opera lovers' and billed as the ideal introduction for first-time opera-goers.
The cast is led by acclaimed soprano Suzanne Shakespeare, following performances as Queen of the Night at Sydney Opera House, Glasgow-born tenor Alistair Diggies, Fife-born baritone Douglas Nairne and Scottish bass-baritone James Arthur.
They are accompanied by Scottish musicians Laura Baxter on piano and violinist Amira Bedrush-McDonald to help bring Donizetti's masterpiece to life.
Opera Bohemia will take to the stage at Lyle Kirk's Newark Street building on Tuesday 3 April.
Tickets cost £12, concessions £10, to book a seat call 723038 or log on to the www.artsguildtheatre.co.uk website.
