GOUROCK could get a new multi-million pound housing development on the site of a former old people’s home

A Stirling-based developer has lodged a planning application for the Kempock House land at Kirn Drive.
It has lain barren for several years.

A sign at the site has marked the land as ‘under offer’ for some time but the proposed developers have only gone public now on their proposals.

Inverdunning Ltd say they think their £4.3 million plan for 41 two-storey houses ‘will be very popular for the family market’.

A spokesperson said: “The site has a fantastic location close to various primary and secondary schools, Gourock Golf Course and local amenities.

“The land area measures some 3.5 acres, and our plans incorporate a mixture of terraced, semi and detached housing. House sizes range from two bedroom terraced up to four bedroom detached properties.”

There are plans for 89 off-street parking spaces

Kempock House was demolished seven years ago as services in the sector were revamped.

Inverclyde Council gave permission in 2010 for a 77-bed mental health care facility to be built on the site but this idea was was later shelved by the authorities.

Councillors on the planning board were split over the proposal, voting 5-4 for it after concerns were raised over traffic flow and parking on Kirn Drive.

Officials are now scrutinising the residential application and will make a recommendation on whether it should be approved or refused.

Councillors on the planning board will then make a decision on the project some point next year.
