IT’S lift-off at a new-look Inverclyde fitness centre after a major £120,000 overhaul was completed.

Gourock Gym has undergone a transformation and now boasts top-of-the-range, interactive equipment and a fresh look.

The free weights area has been significantly expanded and additional cardiovascular and resistance machines have been installed.

A brand new floor has also been laid at the Albert Road facility as part of a major investment by operators Inverclyde Leisure.
Gym supervisor Carl Sullivan said: “It’s a real step up from what we had before. We are moving with the times as well with some of the most modern equipment on the market.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the results.

“There’s something for everyone.

“What we’ve managed to do is create a larger free weight area without compromising the cardiovascular area.”

It has only been four years since the gym and 107-year-old outdoor pool re-opened after a major £1.8 million overhaul by owners Inverclyde Council.

But leisure chiefs are focused on ensuring all their facilities are bang up-to-date — and gym members believe the upgrade will pay off. Regular Luke Young, 17, who lives in Albert Road, said: “It’s very nice, a much better use of space than the old one used to be.

“The equipment is great and will be good to work out on.”
Facility manager Lauren O’Donnell is delighted with the reaction from customers.

She said: “Members are loving it and saying it’s lighter and brighter and wondering how we’ve created more space because the gym seems bigger.

“They are also happy with the equipment, the range of dumbbells, free weights and cardio as well.”
