GOUROCK youngsters are ready to ‘Glow Gold’ in a show of support for their friend who is fighting leukaemia.
The St John’s Church 2nd Gourock Company Boys’ Brigade will be involved in a special service tomorrow to support five-year-old Nathan Mowat, who is an Anchor Boy with the 2nd.
His friends will lead a parade through the town wearing gold sashes with ‘Go Gold for Nathan September 2016’ emblazoned on them.
Every member of the Boys’ Brigade, the Brownies and the Guides will march behind them wearing gold badges in Nathan’s honour.
Nathan’s mum Gillian launched the Glow Gold campaign locally to raise awareness of the devastating impact of childhood cancer.
On September 1 buildings across Inverclyde, led by the Beacon Arts Centre, lit up in her son’s name.
Community groups, the Tele, businesses, politicians and organisations have backed the campaign. Nathan’s school Moorfoot Primary held a special day when the school wore gold and raised money for childhood cancer charities.
MSP Stuart McMillan spoke about Nathan’s cause in the Scottish Parliament and ex-footballer Rio Ferdinand backed the campaign after meeting MP Ronnie at Westminster.
All retiral offerings at the close of the service at St John’s tomorrow will be donated to a charity chosen by Nathan’s mum Gillian. The parade will start in Bath Street at 10.35am and march to St John’s.
