AN Amazon worker at Gourock claims she was attacked and sexually assaulted by a colleague.

The Greenock woman says the terrifying ordeal, now under investigation by the police as well as the company, has left her living in fear.

The 44-year-old – who has been with the global online shopping giant for two years – says she is too scared to go back to work.

She has also hit out at the way she has been treated by Amazon since reporting the attack.

A police investigation is under way and the woman is being assisted by Victim Support.

She said: “My life is shattered.

“After it happened I locked myself in my room for days. It has affected everything, including my relationship with my fiance.

“I can’t believe what this has done to me, I now can’t leave the house without a panic button.

“When I am in a shop and someone stands behind me I feel scared.”

The woman, who works as a picker and packer, says she was sent down to Leicester with colleagues to help train staff at a new plant for two weeks.

The sexual assault is alleged to have taken place in a hotel where the woman was staying.

She claims her attacker tried to force himself on her when they were on their own and that he sexually assaulted her on two occasions.

She added: “We were staying in the hotel and he had been harassing me. He even followed me when I went out.”

The 44-year-old alerted Amazon bosses in Leicester but told the Tele that she was subjected to questioning by bosses for two hours when she arrived back at her workplace in Gourock.

She said: “I was made to feel like they didn’t believe me.

“It was me against everyone else.

“I now want an advocate with me when I speak to them again.”

The Amazon worker went to Greenock Police Station to report the attack and the complaint has been formally passed on to police in England.

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman has confirmed that the force is dealing with a complaint of sexual assault on two occasions, October 14 and 15, in a location near the city’s St Nicholas Circle.

It’s understood that the male employee has now been suspended by Amazon while the company investigates.

An Amazon spokesman said: “We take these allegations very seriously and are conducting our own internal investigation and assisting the police.”
