A SLEEPY shepherd kept his flock of family and friends very much awake with some fabulous performances as Gourock Primary staged its nativity play.

The children starred in their own version of The Christmas Story, dancing, singing and narrating in a show which brought tears and laughter to proud parents.

There were wonderful performances from everyone who danced, sang and narrated in the show.

Head teacher Pat Roberston said: “It was all based on the Christmas story, and one shepherd found it really difficult to stay awake.

“But when the Angel appeared he managed to make his way to Bethlehem to see the baby Jesus.”

There were packed halls for both performances and one of the highlights was a duet by Mikey Roffe and Lola Reid, who sang Under A Star.

Pat said: “The audience laughed at times, and also had a lump in their throats and a tear in their eyes, especially when Mikey and Lola sang the duet.

“The nativity was a great success.”

The children had rehearsed for only two weeks and put everything into practice on the day.

Pat said: “The children get very excited when it reaches the start of December and they rise to the occasion every time.”
