ADVENTUROUS pupils pitched in to gear up for an Easter camping trip.

Third year pupils at St Columba’s learned how to assemble tents and stoves as well as first aid, food preparation and the country code.

The training day aimed to help them prepare for their forthcoming expeditions as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. Lindsay McGurk, faculty head of health and wellbeing and DOE co-ordinator said: “The award has grown from strength to strength over the last three years since we started and this year looks to be our biggest yet with over 100 pupils signing up to take part in the award.

“We thank our partners from Duke of Edinburgh and in particular course coordinator Brian Collins for all his support to ensure our young people get the best possible experience.

“Some school staff will also be accompanying the pupils during their Easter expeditions and we look forward to seeing how they get on. All pupils will then complete their final expedition in May.”
