A LEADING role in a new production of Macbeth is far from a tragedy for a Shakespeare fanatic from Gourock.

Actress Roslyn Paterson is preparing to take to the stage for a week-long run of the iconic play at the Sutton Coldfield Town Hall near Birmingham.

The 29-year-old will star as Lady Macbeth, in what is William Shakespeare’s shortest tragedy, from next Tuesday through to Saturday.

It’s a dream role for the Gourock actress, as she is a huge fan of the bard’s work.

Roslyn said: “I was absolutely desperate to do some Shakespeare.

“Lady Macbeth was the first role I got as soon as I left drama school — I went to Italy to play her and the text was slightly different because it was Shakespeare in Italy.

“So it will be interesting to do it now that I’m older and see how it’s changed and how I view the character — I probably think she’s darker than I did before.

“I’m really excited about it, absolutely in my element.”

Roslyn graduated from the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) in London five years ago and lived in the capital until 2015 when she moved back home to Gourock, where she combines her acting work with being a personal trainer with Inverclyde Leisure.

She was in Kayos Youth Theatre from the age of 14 and also directed a show before heading off to drama school.

Last year she toured throughout England in play ‘Girls With Balls’, which documents the rise and fall of women’s football from the late 1880s until it was banned by the FA in 1921.
Roslyn said: “I’m glad to be back in Gourock.

“There’s a thing about being in drama school where people say you have to be in London for work.

“But the last three jobs I’ve had I would’ve got wherever I was based.

“I spend most of my time walking along the front of Gourock and I can still come and go as I please.”
