THE stage is set for an Inverclyde high school’s annual show with the help of a £150 ‘thank-you’ from local Rotarians.
Members of Gourock Rotary presented a cheque to St Columba’s High in a show of gratitude for the help of staff and students at recent events.
The school hosted the club’s young musician and chef competitions in recent months and both were a huge success.
To show their appreciation, Gourock Rotary president John Taylor handed over a cheque to teachers Jennifer Docherty and Celine Mallon, principal teacher of home economics.
Norman Pettigrew, the club’s youth convener, said: “Without the support of schools such as St Columba’s, it would be impossible to organise and stage such events.”
As well as hosting the young chef contest, the home economics department provided supper for those attending while musical entertainment was provided by a group of talented pupils.
Rotarians say they were most impressed with the hospitality provided by the school.
The cooking competition was won by Port Glasgow High pupil Ryan Collins who went through to the Regional Final.
The Gourock secondary also staged the music contest, in which Clydeview Academy student Karen McLeod was victorious and went on to be runner-up in the National Final.
In recognition for going the extra mile, the Rotarians decided to make a donation towards the school’s end-of-term show, Bugsy Malone, which runs from June 21-23.
