A GOUROCK amateur dramatic group are planning to enter their 50th year in swashbuckling fashion.

The Parish Players hope a tale of skullduggery on the high seas will set them up nicely for their half-century anniversary of treading the boards.

Their Christmas panto this year will be Treasure Island, based on the classic book by Robert Louis Stevenson.

There will be many shouts of “Ahoy there, me hearties”, not to mention the odd parrot joke and cries of “Arrr, Jim lad!”

But before then the Players, who are based at Old Gourock and Ashton Church, need to recruit more members who are interested in acting, singing, dancing or even using a paintbrush to decorate the sets.

President Morven Lyle said the panto is the highlight of their year, but they also do a spring review/variety show.

Morven, who is producing ‘Treasure Island’, said: “There will be six performances, including two on the Saturday. It’s a family friendly club. We all go along for the fun of it.

“The panto is an important part of Christmas for Gourock, and we all look forward to it.

“We hope to hear from new members from the age of 10 upward to swell our numbers.”

The Players rehearse on Mondays and Sundays in the church hall on Binnie Street.
