FIDDLERS will set toes tapping for good causes at a special event at Cardwell Garden Centre tomorrow.

The Clyde Coast Strathspey and Reel Society, also known as the Clyde Coast Fiddlers, will entertain visitors between 1.30pm and 4pm with a selection of Scottish ceilidh tunes.

They are asking people to donate money for Ardgowan Hospice and the society’s own fundraising efforts.

The fiddle group, whose members come from Inverclyde and Ayrshire, are lining up a selection that will, fittingly, feature Flower of Scotland and could also include Bluebell Polka, My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose, and even The Rowan Tree.

Group secretary, Judy Semple of Inverkip, said: “We hope everyone comes along to Cardwell and enjoys our performances.

“Since we’re performing at a garden centre, we’ve been racking our brains to come up with Scottish tunes that relate to flowers, or plants, and Flower of Scotland seems to be the favourite.

“We’ll have an open fiddle case lying on the ground, so I hope people like us enough to want to donate to two good causes.”

Cardwell’s retail general manager, Paul Carmichael, promises a blooming good afternoon’s entertainment.

He smiled: “The Clyde Coast Fiddlers are ‘reely’ good at ceilidh melodies.

“We hope lots of people come waltzing in to Cardwell to hear them play, and donate as much as they can.”

The fiddlers will also be at Cardwell again on Sunday August 27 between 11am and 1pm.
