GIANT vegetables will be on display in Gourock this weekend.

Green fingered gardeners will display their pick of the crops at the Strathclyde Leek and Onion Society Show at Cardwell Garden Centre.

Hundreds of entries are expected for the horticultural extravaganza with some of the leeks on show up to three feet tall.

Paul Carmichael, who is Cardwell’s retail general manager, said: “It’s not an exaggeration to say that these guys certainly know their onions — and every other vegetable you can think of.

“It’s incredible how big they can get their veg to grow and the crowds who come along never fail to be amazed.

“You could say that everyone who comes along at the weekend will be lucky spuds, as we’ve loads of fun activities for all ages.”

As well as the Leek and Onion Show, Cardwell will also host their popular Craft Fair, a barbecue, face painting for kids, food tasting, live music and the sea rescue charity RNLI will have a display stand in the centre.
