A HAIR-OIC Gourock gran will raze the bar for a charity challenge — by having her lovely locks shaved off.

Angela Macintosh will shed her crowning glory at the Darroch Bar tomorrow night as a tribute to her courageous friends and family members who have endured cancer battles.

The 58-year-old mum-of-one and grandmother of three, who lives in Hazel Terrace, aims to raise as much money as she can for three charities close to her heart — Ardgowan Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK.

Angela, who worked as a barmaid at Monteith’s pub before it closed, told the Tele: “I had been thinking about doing the head shave for a while as my mum Sheena McMurtrie had cancer, but thankfully she now has had the all clear.

“My friend Anne Hendry, who I worked with at Monteith’s, is receiving ongoing treatment and my sister-in-law Ruth Macintosh had breast cancer too.

“I also want to pay tribute to Alan Sandison, my former boss at the pub, who sadly passed away after battling cancer last year.

“I hope to raise £500 for each of the chosen charities.”

Angela, who now works as a cleaner at the Darroch, says she has already raised £800 thanks to a quiz night, as well as receiving pledges from her current employers and the Victoria Bar.

She hopes that everyone will come down and cheer her on this Friday.

She added: “I hope people will all come down and donate and enjoy a wee night in aid of great causes that help lot of local people.

“I would like to say a big thanks to all who have sponsored me so far.”

Angela’s hair-raising evening will begin at 7pm.
