PUPILS at St Ninian’s Primary sported odd socks as they celebrated World Down Syndrome Day.

The children attended a special assembly where they celebrated the contribution children with Down’s have made in their school.

The children watched the online viral video ‘50 mums, 50 kids, one extra chromosome’ and even had a go at reproducing the video themselves.

Siobhan Currie, depute head teacher at St Ninian’s, said: “We have children with Down Syndrome in our school community so we held an assembly to celebrate them and the contribution they make to the school.

“The pupils were completely engaged with the assembly, interested in the facts and keen to learn more.”

Introducing the video to the pupils at the school were the sisters of Charlie McCauley, four, who stars in the video alongside his mum Cheryl McCauley.

His siblings Eva and Ellie introduced the clip and assisted the pupils and staff in making the signs.

Their mum Cheryl said: “It’s so lovely that the school went out of their way to do this.

“It made me so emotional.”

After a practice the school filmed the children as they copied the video and then posted it on their Twitter page.

Mrs Currie said: “Everyone totally embraced it.

“The pupils were captivated at the assembly, it was something close to their hearts.

“The staff were moved by the children’s response to the video and how they picked up the signs.”
