A PUB and live music venue in Gourock is to close down, the Tele can reveal.

It is understood that last orders are set to be called at The Darroch Bar.

The pub became known as the Da Rock Bar in recent years, with the change aimed at highlighting it to customers as a live music venue after a change of ownership.

It was open yesterday when the Tele visited, but it is understood that it will be closing down imminently.

The premises has a downstairs bar with a lounge above, and there is a small beer garden at the back.

It will become the second empty licensed premises on Shore Street following the closure of Monteith’s, which is just a few yards away.

A ‘to let’ sign went up outside Monteith’s — or Monty’s as it was known locally — last November and remains there.

The bar is part of the Greene King pub chain portfolio, which also includes brands such as Belhaven and Hungry Horse.

Another Shore Street pub, the Old Wherry Tavern, almost closed last year before Greenock businessmen Sandy and James Easdale stepped in to take over.

It is thought to be one of the oldest public houses in Inverclyde, dating back to the 1870s.

The owner of the Darroch was unavailable for comment when contacted by the Tele.
