Gran hail first-class posties
A DELIGHTED pensioner received a Christmas card despite the fact there was no address on the envelope.
Jean Haliburton, aged 85, was stunned when the festive greeting arrived at her flat on Tuesday with only her name and 'Somewhere in Gourock' on the envelope.
The retired policewoman, who lives in Davidson Drive, was swift to praise the local sorting office and postie for its safe delivery.
She said: "I think it's tremendous. It's such a busy time of year and they took the trouble to find the address. I thought it was very kind of them.
"Royal Mail is much maligned, but in this case they could have just chucked the card in the bin. I think it needs all the positive publicity it can get." The card was from old family friends in Pitlochry who had mislaid the OAP's address.
She said: "They had written postie, postie, please deliver for Christmas."
Postal staff had written the address on the right hand side with 'big hand for the postie' underneath.
Miss Haliburton said: "It was a nice surprise to hear from my friends and to know the post office had taken such trouble to deliver the card."
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: "Royal Mail staff at Christmas and throughout the year always go the extra mile to provide the best customer service to our customers. This is another example of the dedication of postmen and women which can be seen throughout Royal Mail.
"However, Royal Mail would
like to remind customers of the importance of addressing mail properly whenever they send a letter or parcel and that they should always use a postcode."
