Danger road to get one-way system
CAMPAIGNERS are celebrating after winning their fight to improve safety on a Gourock road.
Concerned dad Roald Hansen had feared a child would be knocked over after witnessing drivers mounting the pavement in McCallum Crescent to avoid parked cars.
And he called for the road to be designated as a one-way street.
Ward councillor Ronnie Ahlfeld took up the case and now, nearly three months later, restrictions are to be put in place.
He said: "Following discussions with Inverclyde Council roads dept and Strathclyde police, and following detailed investigation of the problems, it has been decided the preferred way forward is to designate McCallum Crescent a one-way street."
Traffic will now travel up from Binnie Street, leaving Broomberry Drive.
Mr Ahlfeld said: "I am pleased to have facilitated this measure and appreciate the people who contacted me about trying to make this happen. The existing situation can be dangerous and the potential hazard to young children was apparent.
"The recommendation will now go out for public consultation, when all opinions
will be taken into consideration.
"However, in principle, a one-way system can now happen as the police have agreed on this measure."
A council spokesman said: "It would have to go through due legal process, including public consultation, which could take more than nine months."
