A POLICE alert was sparked after a woman was spotted in the Clyde at Gourock last night.
She was seen in the river around 20 feet from the shore, behind Cleats in Kempock Street, just before 8pm.
A concerned passer-by spotted her and raised the alarm. Police were called, who also notified Clyde Coastguard.
It is believed the young woman, who was fully clothed, had only been in the water for five minutes when the alarm was raised.
Police arrived and talked the women out of the water.
She was then taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for a check-up.
Sergeant Stuart Drake, of Greenock police, said: “She was taken to Inverclyde Royal as a precautionary measure.”
