BRAVE: Blair.

AN eight-year-old boy was whacked with a bottle after chasing two thieves who stole his bike.

Blair Smith was playing on the pitches at St Ninian’s Primary School, Gourock, when two older boys begged for a shot on the cycle - before taking the two-wheeler from him.

The bullies, thought to be aged between nine and 12, made off in the direction of Kirn Drive Community Centre, leaving upset Blair and another youngster behind.

Brave Blair, right, chased the pair behind the building in a bid to get his bike back.

But he was punched, hit with a bottle and then kicked by the older of the duo.

His mum, Kirsty Smith, 27, said: “He asked for his bike back and was punched in the face, hit with a vodka bottle and then kicked in the face. He managed to run off and a taxi driver helped him.

“The taxi driver went to look for the boys but they were gone. He also called the police.

“I would like to thank the driver for helping Blair.

“It’s terrible that this could happen. You don’t expect it to happen where you live.”

The incident took place at around 1.15pm on Monday. The bike is a black, silver and red, Pro Bike Mustang.

Police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information should contact them on 492500.
