A PROUD youngster and her pals have raised more than £2,500 in memory of her beloved dad.

Abbi Noone joined fellow Gourock Primary pupils on a sponsored walk for charity.

It was inspired by Abbi's dad Mark, who died of Motor Neurone Disease in 2010.

The children donned their waterproofs and marched a mile near their school to raise an incredible £2,635 for MND Scotland.

Depute head teacher Moira McKay said: "We were shocked at the amount of money.

"We did not expect to raise that much, especially as we held the walk on the same day as Children in Need and raised £800 for Children in Need in the morning and then all this sponsorship money in the afternoon.

"The parents dug deep into their pockets and we were delighted."

P4 pupil Abbi and her mum Erica presented the bumper cheque worth £2,635.75 to Ian McWhirter, fundraising manager of MND Scotland.

A further £173.50 was added to the funds by little ones from Gamble Children's Centre, who also took part in the sponsored walk.

Erica and her friend Laura MacLeod are now planning a fundraising trek to Machu Picchu in Peru in September.
